Quick answer
A matching rule tells Soundiiz exactly which track, album, or artist on one music service corresponds to an item on another service. Soundiiz then uses that rule instead of its automatic matching result in future transfers and playlist synchronizations.
Create a matching rule when Soundiiz selects the wrong version of a song, cannot find an item that is available on the destination service, or should never match an item on a specific service.
How matching rules work
- A rule connects two specific tracks, albums, or artists from two different music services.
- The same rule is used in both directions. For example, a Spotify track matched with an Apple Music track is also recognized when transferring from Apple Music to Spotify.
- Rules apply to future transfers and Sync runs. Creating a rule does not replay or modify a completed transfer.
- Rules are associated with the catalog region detected for each connected service because music availability can differ by country.
Matching rules are available with every Soundiiz plan.
How to create a matching rule
- Open Matching Rules in Soundiiz.
- Select Add a matching rule.
- Choose Track, Album, or Artist.
- Select two different music services.
- Search for and select the corresponding item on each service.
- Confirm the rule.
You can also open User settings and select Matching Rules.
What can I use to find an item?
- Tracks: title and artist, a track URL, or ISRC
- Albums: title and artist, an album URL, or UPC
- Artists: artist name or artist URL
If a search returns several versions, check the artist and release details on the destination service before selecting the item.
Create or edit a rule from transfer results
When a track was not found during a transfer or Sync:
- Open the operation in your Soundiiz history.
- Open its detailed results.
- Select the matching-rule action next to the track that was not found.
- Search for the correct track on the destination service and select it.
If the result already used a matching rule, select its edit action to change the rule. The new or updated rule will be used by future operations; it does not rerun the completed operation automatically.
Prevent an item from being matched
If a track, album, or artist does not exist on a destination service, select the crossed-out This track/album/artist is not existing on [service] result.
Soundiiz will then treat that item as unavailable on that service instead of selecting another result through automatic matching.
Can I edit or delete a matching rule?
Yes. Open Matching Rules to review, edit, or delete your rules.
If Soundiiz reports that a rule already exists for an item and service, edit the existing rule instead of creating a conflicting one.
What happens when I create an album matching rule?
Soundiiz first creates the album rule. If both albums contain the same number of tracks, it also creates track matching rules by pairing tracks in their album order.
If the track counts differ, Soundiiz keeps the album rule but does not create the individual track rules automatically.
