Getting the file
-
Pick what you want to keep
A playlist, or your favorite tracks, albums, or artists. Each one exports on its own, as the export page shows. -
Choose Export as a file
It is listed with the other actions available on a playlist, and on each kind of favorite. -
Choose a format, and the download starts
The formats on offer depend on what you picked, and the download starts as soon as you confirm.
The six formats
What a CSV holds
The columns depend on what you exported. Here is the first line of each file, the one that names them.
A playlist
title,artist,album,isrc,platform,trackId,duration,addedDate,addedBy,url
Favorite tracks
title,artist,album,isrc,platform,trackId,duration,addedDate,url
Favorite albums
title,artist,upc,platform,albumId,nbtracks,releasedDate,addedDate,url
Favorite artists
name,platform,artistId,nbFans,url
A cell is left empty when the music service does not give us the value. An ISRC or a UPC is the industry code of a recording or of a release, and it is what identifies a track most reliably when you move it elsewhere.
Sending a file back in
A CSV or an XML that came out of Soundiiz goes back in as it is, so an export doubles as a backup you can restore to another service later. The reader picks up the columns it needs and skips the rest, which is why the extra ones do no harm. Two pages recap the round trip, one for the spreadsheet and one for XML, and each offers an example file to download. The CSV format and the XML format both have a page of their own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the file contain the music itself?
No, and no plan changes that. What you get is the list, titles, artists, and codes. The audio stays with the music service, which is what your subscription there pays for.
Can I export everything at once?
Each playlist and each kind of favorite exports as its own file. To move many playlists in one go, run a batch transfer and export its results, which lists what was found and what was not.
The URL export came back empty. Why?
That format writes one link per track, so it needs the source service to publish a link for each of them. When none of them carries one, there is nothing to write, and the CSV is the way to go instead.
Which format opens in Excel?
CSV. Our files are written so that accented and non-Latin titles come through intact, which is where a spreadsheet usually turns them into garbled characters.
